            Binoculars will be provided and visitors will be given background information about the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary and the Mississippi River Flyway. Visitors can expect to see blue herons, egrets, gulls, songbirds, red winged blackbirds and possible the American White Pelican. Bird walks will be 30 minutes long. Visitors should come dressed to be outside and bring water.

               Migration Game

              During this game, visitors will try to help their flock migrate safely by learning how choices we make each and every day around our homes, schools, and neighborhoods can affect the fate of migrating birds – in both positive and negative ways. By the time they are done, each person will have the skills and knowledge to help birds thrive and survive around their home.

                Visitors can enjoy kid’s activities, live music, craft and art vendors, wine tasting, restaurant specials, an educational exhibit and historic Lodge tours. Create A Fish Or Bird
                National Great Rivers Museum, Alton
                9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
                Rangers and volunteers will have a craft station set up where visitors can make felt cutouts of birds and fish. The intent with this activity is to highlight the variety of species we have on the Mississippi River and for kids to learn how to identify the different species. This activity is geared towards visitors of all ages and the crafts can either be taken home or left with the museum staff for display.
